Wyvil Primary School

Main information

Type of service: Day schools, Schools

The name of the unit for children with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is the Aurora House: New Wyvil Centre for Children with Autism. Wyvil Primary School is situated between the areas of Vauxhall and Stockwell in the London borough of Lambeth. There is a nursery on site for children aged 3 to 4 as well as a Special Educational Needs centre for children with Speech and Language difficulties. The school is part of the Oval Learning Cluster of local schools. Although a school with over 500 pupils, the school has a higher than average ratio of teaching staff to pupils allowing for flexibility of provision and a curriculum. There is a focus on the development of the whole child. Curriculum and Extra-curricular opportunities: At Wyvil we combine a solid foundation in the core basic skills with exciting opportunities to enhance learning through out of school visits and projects, work in the Arts and partnerships with organisations. The school is equipped to meet the needs of a 21st century education, with space for the teaching of Music, Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and Design Technology. The school has also invested in a modular stage complete with curtains, lighting and PA system. The stage gets plenty of use throughout the year not only for the teaching of drama but also for the many assemblies and school productions that children of all ages are involved in. There is a range of services on offer including after school clubs, childcare before and after school and community services such as English lessons for parents. Many of our after school clubs and parent sessions are facilitated by our membership of the Oval Learning Cluster - a group of 12 local schools which work together to enhance curriculum provision, parental involvement and support as well as improve the quality of teaching and learning.
